OAKHURST — We have a fabulous teacher at Oak Creek Intermediate (OCI); his name is Mr. Erik Peterson. We wanted to ask him a few questions about his teaching career and background.
Mr. Peterson has taught for 28 years. Before his move to Oakhurst, he taught at Simi Valley High School, McKinley Elementary, Spencer V. Williams Elementary, and Valley View Middle School. He has taught 4th, 5th, 7th and 8th grade, and high school classes. Since moving to the mountains, he has taught twenty years at OCI and one year at Bass Lake Elementary.
Mr. Peterson is currently the boys football coach, boys and girls basketball coach, and track coach at OCI. He has also coached football at YHS for the past 21 years and basketball for 12 years. His favorite subject to teach is history, although he enjoys teaching all subjects.
Mr. Peterson grew up in Thousands Oaks, Calif. He played basketball, soccer and baseball as a kid and started playing football in high school. He also played football at the University of San Diego where he majored in political science. His favorite hobbies are weightlifting, hiking and wakeboarding. During the summer he likes to travel, especially to Mexico, and go to the lake.
Mr. Peterson has been married for 25 years. His daughter recently graduated from the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising with a degree in television and film costuming, and is working on movies in Los Angeles. His son is attending Humboldt State University and is majoring in Forestry and also playing football.
We all think he is a great person, friend and teacher.
