Five Students Walk Away From Rollover Accident

OAKHURST — Just after 12:30 p.m. today CHP received reports of a single vehicle rollover accident just west of Elliott Drive on Road 426.

Five teenagers, including three males and two females, were eastbound on Road 426 headed back to class at Yosemite High School, according to CHP.

As they rounded the corner west of Elliott Drive, the male driver allowed the 2005 Ford Focus to drift off the right shoulder of the road. He then over-corrected, traveled back across both lanes of traffic, hit the embankment on the north side of the road and overturned, coming to rest in the westbound lane.

Witnesses reported that the vehicle had been traveling at a high rate of speed just before the crash.

One of the occupants suffered minor injuries and the rest of the students were reportedly uninjured. The westbound lane was blocked for approximately 30 minutes.

Parents responded to the scene to collect the juveniles and the vehicle was towed away. The accident remains under investigation.
