First Slot Machines Arrive at North Fork Mono Casino

After years of planning, construction and legal battles, one of Madera County’s most anticipated development projects is beginning to look a lot more like a casino.

The first slot machines have arrived at the North Fork Mono Casino & Resort, marking another visible milestone as the North Fork Rancheria of Mono Indians moves toward a planned opening this fall.

The casino recently shared video of the delivery, with members of the North Fork Rancheria Tribal Council on hand as the first machines arrived. The casino described the delivery as a milestone and said opening day is getting closer.

For a project with roots stretching back more than two decades, the arrival represents more than another step in construction. It signals the transition from building the facility to preparing it for guests.

A Major Project Takes Shape

The North Fork Mono Casino & Resort is under construction at 17770 Golden State Blvd., adjacent to Highway 99 between the Avenue 17 and Avenue 18½ exits north of Madera.

Plans for the completed property call for more than 2,400 slot machines, 40 table games and eight dining options, including two full-service restaurants and six quick-service locations. More than 4,000 parking spaces are planned, along with free valet parking and accommodations for RVs, trucks and buses. The casino is expected to operate around the clock.

The North Fork Rancheria owns the property, while Station Casinos is developing and managing it.

The casino currently lists a Fall 2026 opening, although a specific grand opening date has not yet been announced.

Hiring Underway Ahead of Opening

The arrival of gaming equipment isn’t the only indication that the project is moving closer to opening.

Hiring is also underway, with the casino saying it expects to bring on more than 1,500 employees. Current openings span slot operations, security, facilities, food and beverage, finance and other areas of the property.

Training has also begun for future table-games dealers, according to recent updates from the casino.

The casino has even begun building its customer base ahead of opening, offering advance enrollment in its rewards program at locations and events around the Central Valley.

A Project Decades in the Making

The casino has traveled a long and complicated path to reach this point.

The North Fork Rancheria began pursuing the Madera casino project more than two decades ago. The Tribe ultimately broke ground on the project in 2024 following years of regulatory proceedings and litigation.

Legal challenges have continued even as construction has moved forward, including disputes over state authorization for gaming at the site. The Rancheria has maintained that federal approvals governing gaming on the property remain valid.

Rather than attempting to resolve that complicated legal history in a story about the latest construction milestone, the important development for now is visible on the casino floor: equipment is arriving, employees are being hired and trained, and preparations are underway for opening.

For residents of Eastern Madera County, the North Fork name makes the project particularly significant. Although the casino itself is being built north of the City of Madera along Highway 99, it is owned by the North Fork Rancheria of Mono Indians, whose tribal community is based in North Fork.

After years when the casino existed largely as plans, approvals, court cases and construction drawings, the arrival of its first slot machines offers something considerably more tangible.

The North Fork Mono Casino & Resort is getting closer to opening its doors.
