No Fireworks Allowed In Eastern Madera County

COUNTY – In light of potentially dangerous conditions caused by the ongoing drought, Madera County Sheriff Jay Varney wants to remind everyone that no fireworks are allowed in Eastern Madera County; not even “Safe and Sane” fireworks are permitted north/east of the Madera Canal.

Fire safety officials also urge that everyone in the community do their part to keep the foothills safe from wildfire this 4th of July.

As has been all-too-evident in the last week alone, the current fire risk conditions are extreme and help is needed to educate residents, visiting guests, and part-time residents on this issue.

California has a zero tolerance for the sale and use of illegal fireworks. Illegal fireworks include sky rockets, bottle rockets, roman candles, aerial shells, firecrackers and other types that explode, go into the air, or move on the ground in an uncontrollable manner. It is illegal to sell, transport, or use fireworks that do not carry the “Safe and Sane” seal, and it’s also illegal to possess or use any fireworks in a community where they are not permitted.

If convicted, a violator could be fined up to $50,000 as well as sent to jail for up to one year.
