Fireside Chat With Julia Parker

MARIPOSA — The Mariposa Museum and History Center invite the public to a Fireside Chat with master basket weaver and storyteller Julia Parker.

The event takes place on Sunday, May 28 at 2 p.m. and admission is free. The Museum and History Center is located at 5119 Jessie Street.

Julia Florence Parker was born 1929, according to Wikipedia, and is a Coast Miwok-Kashaya Pomo basket weaver who studied with some of the leading 20th century indigenous Californian basketweavers.

Over the last 40 years, Parker has become one of the preeminent Native American basket makers in California. A respected elder of the Federated Indians of Graton Rancheria and long-time resident of Yosemite Valley, Parker is prolific artist, teacher, and storyteller.

The Mariposa Museum and History Center is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily, all year long.
