Firefighters Quickly Handle Vegetation Fire In O’Neals

O’NEALS – Firefighters were called out to reports of a vegetation fire in the 47000 block of Road 200 this morning.

At about 11:45 a.m., crews responded to the location in O’Neals near Lily Mine Road.

The first unit at scene reported the fire at about one acre burning in grass and oak woodland with one structure immediately threatened.

Cal Fire, Madera County Fire, Fresno Kings Unit and Sierra National Forest responded to the incident along with Air Attack, two air tankers and two helicopters.

By 12:03 p.m., firefighters had the fire contained at about 1-1/2 acres and all units not already at scene were cancelled with the exception of three engines and a water tender. The incident commander estimated that resources would be committed until about 1:30 p.m., though some engines were made available from the scene to respond to any new incidents as needed.

At 2 p.m., the fire was controlled at 1.5 acres and all resources were released.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, and the exact point of ignition is not known at this time.
