"Ranch Fire" 100% Contained

Firefighters make progress on Road 200 fire – Update Tuesday, Aug 28, 5:30 p.m.

The “Ranch Fire” which broke out around noon Monday, Aug. 27, on Road 200 near Finegold Creek, is now 100% contained. Crews are doing mop-up work and many have been released back to their duty stations.The Cal Fire crew from the Rancheria station just south of North Fork will check for smokes in the morning, and if none are found, the fire will be called controlled.

The fire started in dry vegetation about halfway through the construction zone 5 miles north of O’Neals. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Heavy air attacks were intiated and the motorists winding their way through the construction on Road 200 were witness to quite the air show.

Three air tankers made retardant drops, and two helicopters transported water from a pond in the area.

Ten engines were dispatched, including Cal Fire and two Forest Service units, plus two dozers, two water tenders and two fire crews.Road 200 fire 8-27-12 point of ignition

Traffic is still moving through the work zone, with the regular delays during the day.
