Fire Mapping System Helps Residents Prepare for Fire Season

MOUNTAIN COMMUNITIES — Fire season is upon us and the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office would like to remind the community of valuable informational resources available to them in the event a fire breaks out near their property. We encourage you to take all warnings and orders seriously, as not adhering to these instructions can lead to injury or death.

This is a free service where the Sheriff’s Office can deliver you notifications about a potential safety hazard or concern. You will receive a message to the email, voice or text communication methods that you have registered. There is no need to respond to messages received, as this is a one-way communication tool.

Here is some important terminology for the public to understand during a fire.

Green means no evacuations.

Yellow is an evacuation warning.

Red is an evacuation order.

An Evacuation Warning means there is a potential threat to life and/or property. Those who require additional time to evacuate and those with pets/livestock should leave now.

An Evacuation Order means there is immediate threat to life. This is a lawful order to leave now. The area is lawfully closed to public access.

If evacuated, please make sure to take the following items with you

  • Keys
  • Identification (driver license, passport, etc.)
  • Pets
  • Photos
  • Personal electronics (computer, cell phone, tablet)
  • Medications and eyeglasses
  • Valuable papers (including something with your physical address printed for re-entry)
