NORTH FORK – A small vegetation fire that started along Road 274 near Road 225 yesterday was contain and controlled in short order, and is under investigation.
At about 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, July 23, Tim Maynard was walking along Road 274 just west of the 3-way stop at Road 225, when he saw someone flick something out the window of a black Silverado extended cab pickup.
Maynard says he then saw a fire start on the north side of the road in that same spot, and ran over to try and put it out.
A few moments later, Maynard’s friends Greg McAdams and Tyler Dimonica pulled up in their car, saw him working to stomp out the fire, and called 911.
North Fork Volunteer Fire Department #11 responded with their engine and water tender, along with Cal Fire Engines 4264, 4260, 4275, and 4255.
Cal Fire Air Tanker 82 also hit the blaze with two retardant drops.
Maynard says once the flames started, the fire just made a whooshing sound and spread very quickly up the hill.
Fast response by Station #11 and the Rancheria kept the fire at under a half-acre.
