Fire Engines In Major Crash On Highway 41

FRESNO – A strike team of Cal Fire engines reportedly heading home from the Courtney Fire today had their trip interrupted when two of the engines were involved in a major collision on Highway 41 near Shaw Avenue.

The engines were southbound at about 12:40 p.m. when one engine slowed for heavy traffic.

A small sedan was between two of the large fire trucks, and as traffic slowed, the engine following was unable to stop in time and struck the rear of the car, pushing it into the back of the lead engine, according to CHP.

There were three people in the badly damaged car, and all suffered major injuries and were transported to area hospitals.

All lanes of southbound Highway 41 were blocked until emergency responders arrived to direct traffic through one lane only. Traffic was backed up for several miles in both directions until the scene was cleared at about 3 p.m.

None of the firefighters was injured.
