MARIPOSA– A vehicle fire has spread into the vegetation on Highway 140 and Agua Fria Road near Mariposa. The fire is approximately 10 to 15 acres. Yaqui Gulch Road is currently closed. Ground and air crews are on the scene. Mariposa County Sheriff’s Office is in the area as well.

The Agua Fire is currently 421 acres and 70% contained. All evacuations have been lifted.
Update 4:00pm 7.19.22
The following evacuation orders have been reduced to fire advisements and are open to RESIDENTS ONLY:
Agua Fria Rd, Gold Leaf Rd, Yaqui Gulch Rd (both sides of the road) from Hwy 140 to Prairie Rd, including Prairie and Yaqui Terrace, Hwy 140 from Agua Fria to Bumgardner Mt. Rd from Hwy 140 to the top of the hill.
The following fire advisements have been lifted and are open:
Mt. Bullion Cutoff, Live Oak Rd, Yaqui Gulch Rd from Prairie Rd to Live Oak Rd.
Road Information:
Agua Fria is open to residents only
Hwy 140 is open with reduced speed enforced in the fire area.
The public is reminded to stay vigilant on current fire conditions. Please continue to adhere to road closures and Evacuation Advisories. Tees and poles with deep charring, particularly if still smoldering, should be considered hazardous. Please use caution in these areas and obey all traffic control signs. Fire Crews and utility companies will be remaining in the area to mitigate any remaining fire concerns and restore utilities.
Update 9:30am 7.19.2022
Fire activity remained active throughout the night within the fire perimeter. Firefighters worked hard throughout the night constructing and reinforcing control lines. Also, the fire crew was able to begin mop-up efforts.
All road closures and evacuation orders are still in effect.
Containment is at 20% with full containment expected on July 21st, 2022. Resources on the fire consist of 31 engines, 3 water tenders, 2 helicopters, 4 hand crews, 3 dozers, and 174 personnel.
Update 8:00pm 7.18.2022
The Agua Fire remains approximately 343 acres and 10% contained. All aircraft have been released for the night. No change has been made to the evacuations listed below. Highway 140 is closed from Yaqui Gulch Road to Martin Road in both directions. There is a fire line around the entire fire consisting of fire retardant, bulldozer lines, fire hoses, etc. The only smoke coming from the fire now is in the interior, and it is not progressing anymore.

The fire is showing significant improvement. It is still holding at approximately 343 acres and is 10% contained. The resources on the fire will be committed through the night. Fire managers will be meeting soon to discuss the plans for tomorrow.

The fire is now 60 to 70 acres and burning at a rapid rate of spread with some short-range spotting. Crews are making good progress but there are still structures threatened.

The fire is now approximately 50 acres. Evacuation warnings for the Yaqui Gulch area are being conducted by the Mariposa County Sheriff’s Office.
Highway 140 is currently closed in both directions near Aqua Fria.
