SIERRA NATIONAL FOREST–A vegetation fire has been reported in the Chilkoot Lake Area. The original reports came in from the Shuteye Lookout Tower. A dark smoke column was reported. Air and ground firefighting crews are responding from the Sierra National Forest. Upon arrival, air attack reported the fire to be approximately 2 acres with a moderate rate of spread and no structures threatened. Ground crews are hiking in and air crews are providing support with water and retardant drops.
Air attack estimates the potential for the fire to be 10 acres. We will update this article as more information is available.

The fire has been contained.

The FIRIS fire mapping aircraft has mapped the fire at 3.3 acres. Retardant has been laid down on the head of the fire and both flanks. The tankers have been released and the helicopters are continuing to support the ground crews as they work together towards containing the fire.
