Ahwahnee – Two vehicles were involved in a fatal accident today just north of the Ahwahnee Hills Regional Park on Highway 49. The name of the victim is not being released at this time pending notification of next of kin.
A truck from Total Waste Systems of Mariposa and a small SUV collided head-on in a dangerous 25 mph corner, and the female driver of the SUV was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The crash happened at about 10:38 a.m., and traffic was stopped in both directions for about 90 minutes.
We will update when the CHP releases more information. We are not posting photos of the SUV until we receive official notification from the CHP that the victim’s family has been notified.
