Fatal Crash Closes Highway 41

MADERA COUNTY – A fatal crash near what is known locally as the “rocky cut” just north of the 22-Mile House on Highway 41 closed down traffic in both directions this afternoon.

Just after 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Apr. 15, reports came in to 911 of a 3-vehicle accident blocking both lanes with several injured and one person pinned inside their vehicle.

When EMS arrived at scene, it was determined that one of those involved had succumbed to their injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. Another was airlifted by SkyLife air ambulance to CRMC.

Cal Fire responded to the crash, along with Madera County Fire, Sierra Ambulance, CHP and the Sheriff’s Office.

Traffic was diverted around the accident scene, and as of 7 p.m., Highway 41 has been reopened.

The cause of the crash is unknown at this time and the investigation is underway.

The name of the victim is not being released pending notification of relatives. We will update as more information becomes available.
