Family Trip To Bass Lake Derailed When Car Catches Fire

O’NEALS – A day trip to Bass Lake ended in flames this morning for a father and son as their vehicle caught fire while headed up Road 200.

A man from Fresno was looking forward to spending the day with his son just hanging out at Bass Lake. But as they passed through the O’Neals area just before noon, their 2018 Chevy Traverse started smoking and they pulled over to the side of the road at Lily Mine Way.

The two jumped out of the car as it burst into flames. A passerby rushed in to assist with a fire extinguisher, but to no avail.

Firefighters were on scene within minutes and had the fire put out in short order.

Unfortunately, today’s outing ended with a call for a tow truck and a CHP report rather than a beautiful day at the lake.

Neither occupant was injured. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
