On behalf of the Barnett family, we would like to extend our sincere gratitude for the outpouring of love and support from this community as our family and the Rosasco family have faced the heartbreaking accident involving our daughter Karina and their son Sam.
Some of our greatest comfort has been the expressions of sympathy we’ve received in so many different ways. We cannot thank you enough for your thoughts and prayers and are deeply touched by the copious amount of people that have sent their condolences.
To our surprise, a Go Fund Me account was created by Angie Allsup, with hundreds of people donating to Doreen and our family.
Due to the generosity of this community, the account is over $22,000 and we as a family have determined the best way to honor Karina is to utilize our half of the donations to open a scholarship fund in her memory.
As many of you know, Karina was a natural athlete, excelling in any sport that she participated. She was committed to her education and diligently worked to graduate from high school a year early.
The Karina Barnett Memorial Scholarship will be awarded to a dedicated, self-motivated high school senior with an affinity for athletics and who demonstrates exceptional character and leadership on and off the field/court. We cannot think of a better way to say thank you to our community and to celebrate Karina!
We know this tragedy affects everyone in our small community and we also know that paying it forward brings great joy and lifts spirits of all.
