Fallen Soldiers To Be Laid To Rest

MADERA – The Missing in America Project (MIAP) with assistance from Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 1981, American Legion Post 11, Madera County Veterans Services Office, and the Madera County Board of Supervisors will inter six Madera County veterans whose unclaimed cremains were located through the efforts of dedicated MIAP volunteers.

The purpose of the MIAP is to locate, identify and inter the unclaimed cremated remains of veterans through the joint efforts of private, state and federal organizations and to provide honor and respect to those who have served this country by securing a final resting place for these forgotten heroes.

Veterans being laid to rest include:

  • Guy C. Vernetti, US Army 09/02/1952 – 02/25/2016
  • Raymond Fisher Jr., US Army 10/17/1943 – 05/15/2016
  • Thomas E. Deckert, US Air Force 11/10/1935 – 11/24/2015
  • Gordon H. King (aka Grey), US Army 12/02/1927 – 01/03/2016
  • Juan A. Romo, US Army 05/08/1929 – 01/14/2016
  • Thornton W. Milford, US Army, US Air Force, US Marine Corps 04/03/1923 – 02/11/2016

The interment will be held at the VFW, 2026 N. Granada Avenue in Madera on Friday, Aug. 5, at 9 a.m. The service will be conducted by members of the VFW Post 1981 followed by a motorcycle escort by MIAP Escort Riders to San Joaquin Valley National Cemetery in Santa Nella.

Everyone is invited to attend the ceremony.
