Faith Rumm — Sierra Art Trails 2015 Catalog #101
Artist Faith Rumm is fairly new to this area, having moved to Mariposa around two years ago. Coming from Marin County California, she was eager to be closer to the focus of her artistic inspiration, the High Sierra backcountry, and particularly, Yosemite National Park.
In her fine art oil painting, Faith is currently working on a series of large paintings based on her multiple through-hikes of the John Muir Trail.
These paintings celebrate the beauty and fascination found along this world-famous 211 mile trail.
Starting in Yosemite and ending at Mt Whitney, the John Muir Trail navigates through the roadless heart of the High Sierra. The JMT was named #1 in Backpacking magazine’s Top 10 List of Best Long Distance Hikes in the World, and has steadily grown in national and international popularity.
Recently the trail has experienced a huge influx of “through-hikers”—those who hike the entire trail from end to end. Faith completed her first through-hike at the age of 20 before through-hiking was “cool,” and has since completed three more, the latest being 26 days in August 2014.
The paintings are being created from a combination of photographs taken along the trail, watercolor and pencil sketches, and memory.
She has completed 25 large studio paintings so far, and aims for around 100 to complete the project.
Faith is also the sole proprietor of RummStudio, an interpretive design and illustration business that creates custom art displays for parks and other protected areas. She is currently working on numerous large projects around the San Francisco Bay and northern California.
Sierra Art Trails Open Studio Tour is Friday, Saturday and Sunday, October 2, 3 and 4, 2015.
