Expect Delays At Bass Lake During Yosemite Half Marathon

BASS LAKE – Residents and anyone visiting the Bass Lake area on Saturday, May 13, should be aware of activities that may disrupt their travels during the morning hours.

Vacation Races, an event company that produces half-marathon and ultra-marathon races, will be holding its annual Yosemite Half Marathon.

Starting with a race expo on Friday, May 12, runners and spectators will arrive in Bass Lake, Calif., to run the Yosemite Half Marathon and visit Yosemite National Park. The course will take runners on fire roads through the woods just north of Bass Lake, then down Beasore Road and around part of the lake, ending at Recreation Point.

The race will take place on Saturday from 6 to 11:30 a.m. During these hours there will be 3,000 runners starting on 6S40 off Sky Ranch Road and then coming down Beasore Road and crossing onto Road 274 from Beasore Road to The Pines Resort. The road will be closed. If needed, please use the detour around to North Fork in order to get to Oakhurst.

North Shore Road (Road 432) will be open but will have heavy runner traffic from The Pines to Recreation Point Campground on Road 222. Traffic will continue to operate, but drivers should expect heavy delays. If at all possible, please avoid vehicular traffic during these hours.

The event coordinators would like to express their apology for any inconvenience this may cause residents.

“We are so grateful to the communities that allow us to put on these events. Without their cooperation it just wouldn’t be possible,” said Director of Race Operations Lyle Anderson. “We really appreciate being allowed to put on this event and help our runners discover, or re-discover, the beauty of Yosemite!”

The event has over 3,000 running participants and will bring around 6,000 people to town. The race is sold out, so no new registrations are begin accepted.
