MARIPOSA PAINT OUT RETURNS, BRINGING ARTISTS FROM ACROSS THE COUNTRY
Mariposa will once again become an open‑air studio this spring as the Sierra Artists Gallery hosts the 2nd annual Mariposa Paint Out, a five‑day plein air celebration running April 22–26. The event draws professional and emerging artists—as well as art lovers—to the historic Gold Rush town and the surrounding Yosemite region.
Gallery organizers say the Paint Out is quickly establishing Mariposa as a destination for creative talent, offering artists the chance to capture everything from downtown’s historic charm to the dramatic landscapes of Yosemite and the Merced River Canyon.
Throughout the week, roughly 40 artists will spread out across the region to paint on location. Maps of picturesque locations where you may spot some artists at work will be available at the gallery during the week. Three workshops led by award‑winning instructors will also be offered, with registration available at SierraArtistsGallery.com.
A highlight of the week will be the Friday night nocturne paint‑out on April 24 in downtown Mariposa. Residents are encouraged to dine locally, enjoy the evening atmosphere, and watch artists at work under the glow of streetlights and storefronts.
The public is invited to join the festivities at noon on Sunday, April 26, at the Mariposa Government Center, where artists’ freshly completed works will be judged for cash awards. Visitors may also cast a ballot for the People’s Choice Award before browsing the lively “wet paint sale,” where original pieces are sold directly off the easel.
