Oakhurst Lutheran Church will be holding its Annual Flag Day celebration on Flag Day- Wednesday, June 14.

The celebration begins with a fund raising dinner for Tier One Tranquility Base at 6:00PM. The dinner will include a pulled pork sandwich, and chips, and water.. Cost is $10.00. All profits will go to Tier One Base Tranquility, a program to help returning veterans with PTSD.

The dinner will be followed by a Flag Day program that will feature guest speaker Steve Kuryla the founder of Tier One Base Tranquility, which has The mission to mitigate Veteran Suicide and teach family members how to deal with Veteran PTSD and the “Moral Wounds of War”.
We train our soldiers to go to war. We don’t train them to come home to Ft Living Room.
Steve’s story is an amazing one- his service to our country and now his service to our veterans. To give you some idea of what you will hear, this is Steve’s response to a question asked in an interview about his life and career: How blessed I have been to have worked with and fought beside some of the finest human beings God ever put on this planet. And that’s not a bumper sticker. I truly believe that “All evil needs to succeed is for good men to sit back and do nothing.” I don’t mourn the loss of those I served with, I thank God that such men lived.

The program will have lots of patriotic music led by Tim Johnson, the Pledge of Allegiance and a flag retirement/burning ceremony. The Flag Day program will take place in the Memorial Garden next to the Veterans’ Memorial.
