Early Morning Roll-Over Crash On Deadwood

OAKHURST – A trip to the casino ended with a trip to the hospital this morning when the driver rolled his car on Deadwood.

At about 3:10 a.m., first responders were called out to the scene of a single-vehicle accident on Highway 41 about a mile south of Oakhurst.

The driver, an Oakhurst man in his seventies, told CHP that he couldn’t sleep and decided to go to the casino. He said that as he headed up Deadwood he thought he saw something run out into the road and tried to avoid hitting whatever it was.

The Toyota Avalon hit the rock embankment on the west side of the road and rolled over, coming to rest blocking both lanes.

The driver was able to extricate himself from the vehicle, and was transported by Sierra Ambulance to the VA Hospital in Fresno with cuts and abrasions.

One-lane traffic control was put in place for about 45 minutes as the scene was cleared.

There was no indication from CHP that drugs or alcohol were a factor in the crash.

The accident remains under investigation.
