DUI Arrest After Road 200 Crash

NORTH FORK – A single vehicle accident on Road 200 slowed traffic to one lane for about an hour this evening.

A 33-year-old Madera man was westbound in a 2008 Jeep at about 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Jan 29, when he failed to negotiate the 25 mph curve at the Fine Gold Creek bridge.

The Jeep struck the rock wall on the right side of the road and rolled over, coming to rest in the eastbound lane. Several witnesses stopped to assist the driver, one a reported Army medic who broke out the windshield to free the man from the vehicle.

Others stopped to help direct traffic and keep the problem from being compounded by having other vehicles crash into the wrecked Jeep.

Witnesses said the smell of alcohol was very pronounced, and after Sierra Ambulance personnel evaluated the man and CHP investigated, he was taken to a Fresno hospital with minor injuries, and placed under arrest for DUI.

Cal Fire Engine 4255 from Rancheria responded to the crash, along with firefighters from Station 11 in North Fork.
