Doughnut With A Deputy

mcso-donut-with-deputy-nov-23-2016OAKHURST — Here’s an opportunity to get to know local law enforcement in a comfortable atmosphere with no agenda except a chat and cuppa something good. The community is invited to have a “Doughnut with a Deputy,” at Judy’s Donuts, on Wednesday, Nov. 23. The event runs from 7 to 8:30 a.m. at Judy’s, located at 40444 Highway 41 in Oakhyurst.

Based on the popular “Coffee with a Cop” format, the objective is to increase communication and break down any barriers between the public and the Madera Sheriff’s Office, say organizers. The focus of the events is to put citizens and deputies in a neutral environment and focus on solutions to issues while building working relationships.
Everyone is invited and encouraged to attend these agenda-free events. Come out and get to know your local law enforcement, discuss issues, have a doughnut, or just hang out.

“These events are a great opportunity to eliminate some of the communication obstacles and make ourselves available to the community to have open and honest conversations about what’s important to them,” says Sheriff Jay Varney.

The Coffee with a Cop program is supported by the US Department of Justice, Office of Community Oriented Policing Services, and its growth since 2011 continues at an exponential rate.  Coffee with a Cop was highlighted in the Final Report of the President’s Task Force on 21st Century Policing as a way to build community trust and confidence.
