Do You Hear What I Hear? Free Christmas Choral Concert

By Monika Moulin —

OAKHURST — For the seventh consecutive year, a group of singers from local area church choirs, as well as a mini-orchestra made up of talented local instrumentalists, will come together for a beautiful Christmas program in two performances.

This year’s program will feature a moving and joyful performance of “Do You Hear What I Hear?” by composers Mark Brymer and Susan Naylor Calloway.

Choristers from New Community United Methodist Church and Sierra Vista Presbyterian Church will unite on Sunday, Dec. 11, at Sierra Vista off of Highway 41. The first performance is at 4 p.m. and the final performance is at 6:30 p.m.

The work’s publishers describe it this way:

“What were the sounds of the first Christmas? What are the sounds of Christmas today? Do we hear what they heard that night long ago in Bethlehem? Elizabeth, Mary and Joseph were listening and heard the news… angels, shepherds, then wise men heard the news of the birth of a Savior…and followed.”

This 45-minute musical/cantata blends fresh arrangements of carols and beautiful new songs with a compelling narrative to create an exciting musical for Christmas.

As ever, admission is free, and an offering will be taken to help cover expenses.

Monika Moulin is Director of Music at New Community United Methodist Church/Oakhurst

Sierra Vista Presbyterian Church is located at 39696 Highway 41 in Oakhurst.
