When many people think of Idle Hour Winery & Kitchen, they think of wine.

And that’s understandable.

After all, Idle Hour holds the distinction of being Oakhurst’s first winery, producing handcrafted, small-lot wines just minutes from Yosemite National Park’s South Entrance.

But if it’s been a while since you’ve visited—or you’ve only stopped in for a tasting—you may be surprised by everything else waiting there.

Set along the banks of the Fresno River, Idle Hour has grown into a destination that combines handcrafted wines, a Mediterranean-inspired scratch kitchen, the Queen’s Inn, a wine bar and beer garden, and a year-round calendar of events that continues to draw both locals and visitors.

The winery itself began as a passion project for winemaker Anna Marie dos Remedios. What started as a hobby eventually became a professional pursuit rooted in traditional winemaking methods, including native yeast fermentation, gravity-flow racking, and minimal intervention—techniques designed to let each vineyard express its own character. She and partner Deb Payne later relocated the winery to Oakhurst, making Idle Hour the community’s first winery.

Here’s something you might not know about Idle Hour Winery & Kitchen.

It’s more than a winery.

It’s an experience that can easily fill an afternoon—or even an entire weekend.

You can enjoy a wine tasting before lunch, settle in for a Mediterranean-inspired meal prepared with seasonal ingredients, wander over to the riverside wine bar and beer garden for live music or an open mic night, then end the day by staying at the Queen’s Inn without ever leaving the property. Monthly wine dinners, a book club, yoga sessions, and the Fearless Food & Wine Club give locals plenty of reasons to return throughout the year—not just during tourist season.

It’s a combination that’s surprisingly uncommon in a mountain community. Rather than being known for just one thing, Idle Hour has become a place where food, wine, hospitality, and the natural setting along the Fresno River all come together.
