Didgeridoo Concert at Three Springs

NORTH FORK – The community is invited to share in an evening of outstanding and unique music as one of the world’s best contemporary didgeridoo performers, Ondrej Smeykal, takes the stage at Three Springs on Wednesday, May 8.

Also playing at the event will be Stephen Kent, ethnomusicologist and radio host from the Bay Area.Ondrej Smeykal hails from Prague, Czech Republic. He has a Masters degree in Fine Arts and works in multiple media, doing interactive art installations internationally with an artists collective called Orbis Pictus. His main focus involves using the simplicity of a single hollow tube for creating astounding complexities in composition.

Stephen Kent is a British ethnomusicologist who adopted didgeridoo during his time as a performer in an Australian Circus Troupe. His keen interest in ethnic music, combined with his own musical and performance sensibilities, propelled him to the forefront of contemporary didgeridoo in the 1980s.

Since that time, he has continued to work both as a solo artist and in several different bands. Stephen now lives in the San Francisco Bay area and hosts the radio show “Music of the World” on KPFA. More info on Stephen can be found at stephenkent.net

The concert will be Wednesday, May 8, at Three Springs, 59820 Road 225, North Fork. Gates open at 6:30 pm. Guest are encouraged to bring thier own chairs, blankets, snacks, a flashlight and a friend. No pets please.

$10 suggested donation for the musicians.
