Deputies Require Medical Attention After Possible HazMat Exposure

OAKHURST — A response to a call regarding possible stolen property resulted in two Madera County Sheriff’s deputies being transported for medical treatment.

This morning at approximately 8:32 a.m, deputies arrived at Oakhurst Self Storage on Winding Way to investigate reports of possible stolen property.

Shortly before 10 a.m., two of the responding deputies began exhibiting the type of symptoms that would be caused by an exposure to airborne chemicals.

Both deputies were transported by ground ambulance to a medical facility for evaluation.

Cal Fire, Madera County Environmental Health and the Madera County Narcotic Enforcement Teams are on scene investigating.

We will update on the deputies’ condition as soon as information becomes available from the Sheriff’s Office.
