Cudd Running for BLSD Area 1 Trustee

OAKHURST — Denise Cudd, a long-time resident, mom, and retired teacher has recently announced her candidacy for Bass Lake School Board Area 1 Trustee. Her goals are to bring a more balanced approach to the position and focus on closing the post-Covid achievement gap. Beginning of the school year assessments placed 59% of students at least one year behind in reading and 73% at least one year behind in math. “There’s a record amount of funding coming to schools this year and I’d like to see it spent on helping teachers support the kids in the classroom.” Although each site has a Reading Specialist, currently there are only paraprofessionals in grades TK and K. There are a whole host of challenges facing students and teachers, but Mrs. Cudd believes that with enough personnel and proper allocation of resources, the district can meet those challenges.

A homegrown candidate, she attended Wasuma, YHS, Fresno City, and Fresno State. She has taught at both Rivergold Elementary and Mountain Home School and has both teaching and leadership experience. She also has a Master’s Degree in Reading and Elementary Literacy. “My teaching background gives me a huge leg up. I understand how board decisions affect the day-to-day functions of a classroom, I understand how funding models work, the need for fiscal responsibility, and have experience evaluating curriculum.”

Mrs. Cudd has two adult children who also attended local schools. She is the owner of Denise Cudd Designs, a local interior design company, and currently serves on the board of the Bass Lake Homeowners Association. Her experience as a parent, teacher, and board member makes her an excellent candidate. “Every child deserves a quality education in a safe environment, and I look forward to serving the families of the district!” Vote Denise Cudd for BLSD Area 1 Trustee!
