Crews Nearing Total Containment On Valley Fire

CATHEYS VALLEY – The Valley Fire, burning along Old Highway in Mariposa County, is now 80 percent contained at a new estimate of 155 acres.

UPDATE: The Valley Fire is now 100 percent contained at 149 acres.

The fire was reported at about noon on Sunday, July 19, near the address of 3043 Old Highway and quickly spread to over 100 acres within the hour.

Old Highway was closed for several hours to allow clear access to fire equipment and for the public safety.  The roadway was reopened at about 4:30 p.m. Sunday.

Crews continue to work on completing and strengthening firelines and doing mop-up. Motorists are encouraged to use caution driving through the area.

No structures have been reported lost. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
