Crews Make Good Progress On Sacata Fire

FRESNO COUNTY — Smoke is still visible across many surrounding communities as the Sacata Fire near Pine Flat Reservoir moves into its fourth day.

The fire, which was reported at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 11, has now grown to 1,700 acres with 35 percent containment.

Fire officials report that good progress has been made as crews work to strengthen containment lines, engaging the fire in steep and very rugged terrain. The crews are working in coordination with dozers, engines and a compliment of water dropping helicopters.

There are currently 581 personnel assigned to the incident, including 23 engines, 17 hand crews, 8 helicopters, 6 water tenders and 4 dozers.

No structures are reported threatened, and no evacuations have been ordered.

Although there is a weather system moving in over the weekend, no precipitation is expected to fall on the fire.

Smoke from the Sacata Fire may continue to be visible during active burning periods in the local communities.  Depending on changing weather conditions, smoke may create decreased visibility and increased problems for people with respiratory diseases.  For additional information on smoke conditions and health effects, visit airnow.gov.

Cooperating agencies include the Sierra National Forest, Cal Fire, Fresno County Sheriff, Office of Emergency Services, PG&E and Southern California Edison.

The fire is burning south of Eagle Peak and Brandford Mountain, and Forest Road 10S69 will have slow traffic as fire personnel and apparatus access the burn areas and travel to and from firelines.
