Crews Handle Four Fires In One Day

MADERA COUNTY – Firefighters were busy on Thursday, June 20, with four small fires that were all quickly extinguished, one by a passing motorist.

Crews were first called out to a vehicle fire on Deadwood, on Highway 41 just south of Oakhurst. Engines then responded to a small fire on Road 415 near Sesame Street.Within minutes of responding to the Road 415 incident, the call came in for another vegetation fire burning at Highway 41 and Road 416. Both of those fires were less than an acre, one just a large spot, and were dealt with in short order.

Just as firefighters were enjoying a potluck dinner following a pinning and promotion ceremony at Station #10 in Yosemite Lakes Park, they got called out to a grass fire burning beside Highway 41 near the 22-Mile House.

Most of the resources were called off, because a passing motorist stopped and dealt with the fire himself, with a little help from a fire break in the form of a dirt road just east of the highway.
