Crash On Highway 140 Claims Two Lives

MARIPOSA COUNTY — A two-vehicle crash near Midpines yesterday has claimed the lives of two Mariposa County residents.

Just after 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Apr. 5, Melissa Anne Carter, 47, of El Portal was eastbound on Highway 140 in a 2011 Honda CRV, just east of the Briceburg Bridge.

Tony Lane Record, 56, of Midpines was westbound in a 1996 Dodge Caravan with one passenger, Tim Hartley, 48, also of Midpines.

Approximately 1.5 miles east of the Briceburg Bridge, Melissa Carter crossed over the solid double yellow lines and collided with Record’s vehicle, according to CHP.

Carter sustained fatal injuries upon impact, and was pronounced deceased at the scene. Record was also grievously injured, and succumbed to those injuries while being transported from the scene by Mercy Ambulance.

Tim Hartley was taken by Mercy Ambulance to a landing zone and airlifted to a hospital in Modesto with a fractured hip.
