Crash Blocks Highway 49 For Nearly An Hour, DUI Suspected

OAKHURST – A single-vehicle rollover crash brought traffic to a standstill on Highway 49 near Harmony Lane on Friday evening.

At 10:11 p.m., a 24-year-old Mariposa man was southbound on Highway 49 when he allowed his 2003 Ford F250 to drift onto the right shoulder, causing him to over-correct and roll, according to CHP. The truck came to rest on the driver’s side blocking both lanes.

The crash was initially reported as a pin-in, but the driver was able to free himself from the truck with some assistance from firefighters.

He was transported by ambulance to Community Regional Medical Center with complaints of pain and some lacerations.

CHP at the scene suspected the driver of being under the influence and he was placed under arrest and released into the custody of the ambulance crew.

The roadway was blocked in both directions until just after 11 p.m.

The accident remains under investigation.
