YOSEMITE – Travelers to Yosemite National Park will want to be aware of construction and repair projects throughout the park. Here are the updates from the Yosemite Daily Report:
The Hetch Hetchy Road is open to visitor traffic while Hetch Hetchy Water and Power and AT&T conduct utility repair operations along the roadway for the next couple of months to repair fire damaged electrical and communication infrastructure. Visitors should expect single lane closures, and at times full closures, of the road as the utility repair is undertaken.
On Nov. 5 and 6 the road will be closed to facilitate the utility repair work. Please drive slowly along the road and watch out for construction workers and stopped vehicles.
As of Tuesday, Oct. 29, the trail from the O’Shaughnessy Dam to Wapama Falls and beyond is open. The backpacker’s campground is also open. All other backcountry areas accessed from the trailheads along the Hetch Hetchy Road and O’Shaughnessy Dam areas will remain closed until further notice due to impacts from the Rim Fire. The closure notice is available at http://www.nps.gov/yose/planyourvisit/rimfire.htm.
South Fork of the Tuolumne River Bridge Lane Closure
The Historic Preservation Crew will be repairing the railings on the South Fork of the Tuolumne River Bridge on the Tioga Road starting Oct. 23. Traffic will be reduced to a single lane over the bridge during the repairs. Work is expected to continue into mid-November.
Yosemite Village West, Search and Rescue/Fort Parking Lot Closure
Starting Monday, Oct. 28, the parking area between the Search & Rescue, ATT and Fort buildings will be closed for construction of a communication tower, equipment shelter and associated buried utilities. Parking lot closure for these construction activities will be approximately three weeks. Access to the fueling station will continue to be open during construction. Traffic into and out of the Fort area may be reduced to one lane. Please do not block these lanes for emergency purposes.
South Entrance Station Traffic Delay Update
Crews are continuing to work day and night with intermittent controlled traffic and up to 15 minute delays with either flaggers and/or pilot car operations. Please drive slow through the construction zone.
Valley Loop Trail Work
The Valley Loop trail from Lower Yosemite Falls to Camp Four will be rerouted to allow for construction of an accessible trail. Crews will be working Monday through Thursday 6 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. from Sept. 25 to Nov. 28. Please use caution in this area. Contact Brian Ward 742-8827 with any questions.
