Coarsegold Woman Dies After Head-On Crash On Highway 41

COARSEGOLD — A two-vehicle crash on Highway 41 near Morava Road has claimed the life of one woman, and injured another.

At 3 p.m., reports came in of an accident in front of Mountain Aire on the north end of Coarsegold.

According to CHP at scene, a 70-year-old Coarsegold woman was northbound in a Lexus ES330 approaching Morava Road, and was turning left into a parking lot on the west side of the road, but turned directly into the path of a southbound Ford Escape, driven by a 38-year-old woman, also of Coarsegold.

The vehicles hit nearly head-on, and came to rest blocking both lanes of Highway 41.

First responders who were just finishing up with a crash on Highway 49 near Harmony Lane headed over Deadwood to the new crash. The roadway was closed in both directions as the vehicles were moved and the injured were readied for transport.

The driver of the Ford had complaints of pain, but declined to be transported for treatment.

The driver of the Lexus was taken by ground ambulance to St. Agnes in Fresno with moderate injuries.

Her 90-year-old mother, who was a passenger, was airlifted by CHP’s H40 helicopter to Community Regional Medical Center, but succumbed to her injuries and passed away.

The accident remains under investigation.
