This weekend’s car show at the Oakhurst Community Center is shaping up to be a good one. It will bring at least 120 classic cars and their owners to the area.
More than 50 special class awards will be given in the Sierra-Oakhurst Kiwanis Club’s 10th annual Run for the Gold Classic Car Show. These include a Special Camaro Award for a Camaro built before 1982. Cash prizes of $500 are on offer for the Best of Show, Kiwanis Choice and Best Hot Rod categories.A kick-off party, with a barbecue dinner and classic rock and roll music will follow Friday afternoon’s registration, with all the cars participating in a cruise afterward.
The show opens at 7 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 8. Kiwanis Club members will serve breakfast from 7 to 10 a.m., and lunch from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Craft vendors also
will set up in the community center’s parking lot.
The show’s proceeds will be given out in mini-grants by the Sierra-Oakhurst Kiwanis Club to local elementary and middle schools.
