Chukchansi Tribal Council Supports Youth Wrestling

YOSEMITE — The Chukchansi Tribal Council generously sponsored eight youth wrestlers from Yosemite High School at Fresno State’s Intensive Wrestling Camp in July. J.J. Lawhon, Wyatt Lawhon, Gabe Neeley, Evan Heiss, Clint Willoughby, Peter Kuzmitske, Logan Mount, and Nicolas Guynn reaped the benefits that only a full immersion summer camp can offer.

The camp’s coaching staff taught technique and provided individualized instruction to correct weaknesses. Clinicians included FSU Head Coach Troy Steiner and assistant coaches Israel Silva, Joe Colon, Jason Chamberlain, as well as members of their collegiate team.

The Chukchansi Tribal Council also provided for YHS coaches Kent Lincoln, Kyle Lincoln, and Jeff Guynn to attend the California Coaches Seminar, hosted by Fresno State in October.

Yosemite High School opened their 2019-2020 wrestling season on Friday, Dec. 6, at The Chukchansi Invitational, hosted by Madera South High School. Forty-nine teams competed in the two day tournament. Junior Nicolas Guynn, at 160 pounds, medaled in 8th place out of 30 wrestlers in his weight class.

More high school wrestlers who benefited from Chukchansi Tribal Council’s support last summer will compete this Thursday as the Yosemite Badgers compete against the Mariposa Grizzlies in YHS’s lower gym at 6 p.m. The public is encouraged to come and cheer for their favorite teams.
