CHP Officers Arrest Two for Suspected Mail Theft

MARIPOSA – On September 20, 2020, at approximately 12:00 am, Mariposa CHP Officers S. Kohout , and S. Mullen conducted an enforcement stop on a black 2007 Ford Mustang for a mechanical violation, on SR-49, at Worman Road. After identifying the driver (Amanda Barrera) and passenger (Israel Vega Silva) it was determined both had active felony warrants, from Merced County.

Barrera and Silva were taken into custody without incident. A search of Barrera, after her arrest, located drug paraphernalia and a white crystal substance suspected to be methamphetamine.

During the vehicle inventory search, prior to vehicle storage, several opened packages and letters from various residents within Mariposa County were discovered. Both Barrera and Silva were booked into Mariposa County Jail.

CHP will continue to investigate this event with the possibility of mail theft charges.
