Cheyenne Hernandez Anchors Music on the Green Weekend
Music on the Green returns to downtown Mariposa this weekend with two nights of free live music — and one local musician helping connect them both.
Mariposa musician Cheyenne Hernandez will bring her own musical ensemble to the Mariposa County Art Park on Friday, Aug. 21, before returning to the stage Saturday as lead vocalist for Merced-based Beat Novo.
The back-to-back performances offer two different sounds over the course of the weekend, while putting Hernandez at the center of both nights.
Friday’s performance will feature Hernandez and her ensemble presenting what organizers describe as a blend of California folk and world music, with plenty of positive energy mixed in.
On Saturday, Aug. 22, Hernandez will join Beat Novo, a Merced-based band with a Latin-influenced sound.
Both concerts begin at 7 p.m. at the Mariposa County Art Park, located at 5013 Highway 140 in historic downtown Mariposa. The performances are free, although tips for the musicians are appreciated and encouraged.
Parking is available along Fourth and Fifth streets. Accessible pedestrian access is available from the lower Fifth Street parking lot through the Mariposa Creek Parkway entrance.
A Summer Tradition in Downtown Mariposa
Music on the Green is presented by the Mariposa County Arts Council and has become a regular part of summer weekends in downtown Mariposa, bringing musicians to the Art Park for free community performances.
The series is made possible entirely through sponsorships and audience donations, with support coming from businesses, organizations and individuals throughout Mariposa County and the surrounding region.
The Arts Council credits producer Andy Roberts with curating the performers who appear throughout the summer series.
For this weekend, that lineup provides an opportunity to hear Hernandez in two different musical settings — first with her own ensemble Friday evening and then alongside Beat Novo on Saturday.
