Mary Weissmann

At 5:26 p.m. on Monday, June 7, 2021, Maryetta “Mary” Naomi Weissmann went Home to be with the Lord while her loving husband Helmut “Hal” was holding her hand. Mary was also surrounded by her children, and grand-children.

Mary faced her cancer battle, and fought with grace and dignity. She came to better understand the love of her family through those closest to her that surrounded her and cared for her until her final moments.

Mary was born July 12, 1943, to Lois Barajas and Earl Hammond in Harding, Illinois. Mary met and married the love of her life, Hal Weissmann, and together they shared 54 years.

Mary was not a tall woman; she would often state her height at 4 foot 11 and three-quarter inches, always emphasizing, and exaggerating, the extra three-quarters of an inch. None would confuse her stature with her passion. Mary had a fire in her that burned brightest for her family. Never was there a family event that transpired without her cooking some amazing dishes for family and friends alike. This passion was only equaled by her desire to find that one treasure at a yard sale she just knew had to be there. When the weekend was early, she would get up and enlist as many co-conspirators as she could before descending upon the yard sales to haggle and bring home a ‘find-of-a-lifetime’ to share with those she loved. Mary loved shopping, dancing, gardening and a good game of dice.

Christmas for Mary was not just a day, it was a seasonal event that required preparation starting on Black Friday. Christmas boxes, and then more boxes, were retrieved, lawn decoration came from their seasonal hiding places. Lights and twinkling decorations were displayed to create a season of magic and joy. Thank you for making us feel special and loved. Your spirit lives on in all of us and in the lives of those you have touched.

Mary is preceded in death by her son William (Billy) Weissmann, mother Lois Barajas, and father Earl Hammond. She is survived by her loving husband Helmut (Hal) Weissmann, daughter Jackie Cross, son Joe Weissmann, daughter-in-law Janet Weissmann, daughter Kamila (Kami) Allen, son-in-law Jim Allen.

Grandchildren include Heather and Chris Sanchez, Amanda Weissmann, Megan Weissmann, Nicole Gray, Brad Gray, Kristian and Paige Cross, Kade Cross, Samantha and Michael Spielman, Noah and Hannah Allen.

Great-grandchildren include Annabelle Marks, Kaisen and Kendyl Cross, Blair Marietta Spielman, brother Tom and Diane Hammond and their children.

A celebration of life will be held at Sierra Pines Church on Friday July 30, 2021, at 11 a.m. In remembrance of Mary, we ask you to bring a favorite story and some potluck food to share in the café immediately after the service.
