Celebration of Life for John “Bat” Masterson

John Masterson passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday, October 22, 2019. John was 88 years old. John, or “Bat” as many called him, was born August 28, 1931, in Maud, Oklahoma, and moved to Ahwahnee in the early 1940’s. He met his wife Katherine Arnold in his twenties and they spent the next 60 or so years together.

Bat was a logger by trade and enjoyed the mountains. He loved cutting wood, even until the very last days of his life. He also loved fishing, camping, riding his bike, animals, and staying up on all the current news of friends and family. He often played guitar and sung old country songs. Bat even performed the last two years at the Senior Talent Show at Oakhurst Community Center.

John Masterson is survived by his nephew, Doyle Hayes, and nieces, Linda Jay, and Janice Castellanoz, as well as his sweet K9 companion Julie.

Although there are no biological children to John and Kat Masterson, they were devoted parents and grandparents to many. The last five years John missed his companion, his love, and his best friend Katherine Masterson. John is preceded in death by his wife, Katherine Masterson, mother, Alpha Masterson, father, Clyde Masterson, and sister Mittie Garcia.

Services for John Masterson will be held at Oakhurst Cemetery at 10 a.m. on Saturday, November 2nd, with a reception to follow at Coarsegold Community Center. Friends and family are welcome to attend.
