George Blake.

George Blake of Oakhurst, CA, was called home to our Lord on Sunday, December 19, 2021. He was born on June 23, 1950, to George and Jacqueline Blake in Whittier, CA.

George married the love of his life, Cheryl Winski, on August 20, 1977. He is survived by his wife, Cheryl Blake; and son, Steven Blake of Oakhurst, CA; his grandson, Trever Blake of Bakersfield, CA; his brother Richard Blake of Hemet, CA, and his beloved pets Emma and Dusty.

George retired after a long and successful career as an Administrator/Engineer for Verizon. He was a Disabled American Veteran proud to serve in the United States Army and deeply cared for his country.

He was a master fly fisherman and enjoyed sharing his passion mentoring other aspiring fisherman. He loved the outdoors and spent his free time camping with his family, friends and favorite dog, Rusty. Together they explored national parks, the wilderness and enjoyed time out on the water boating. He especially loved the Sierra Nevada Mountains, Yosemite and Yellowstone National Parks. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family, grandson and friends. He also enjoyed classic cars and listening to “The Oldies.”

George left a mark on everyone that he met. He took time and interest in conversing with people of all ages and walks of life. Often he would get caught up in telling stories for hours at a time. To know him was to love him.

A private memorial service for family and close friends will be held in the summer of 2022.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Disabled American Veterans in his honor at www.dav.org.

Until we fish again…

John 3:16 “For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”
