Dennis Robert Otterson was born in Duluth, Minnesota, on November 17, 1945.
In 1951, a sister Diane was born. He loved being a “big brother.” The family moved to Santa Barbara in 1955 and the California adventure began.
Early years were spent with friends, many life-long, enjoying the California sun – waterskiing, surfing, fishing, hiking, traveling – he loved the “great outdoors”.
His college years were spent at UCSB and Cal Poly. His lifelong passion for education and the arts was developing. Also during his college years, he would go on the “Great European Adventure” with his best friend Anthony and his many travel adventures began.
His passion for teaching begins — Dennis is one of the original teachers at Yosemite High School. Mr. Otterson (aka “Mr. O”) taught many subjects, including the infamous “Driver’s Education.” Most mountain drivers from YHS were taught by Mr. O. He retired from teaching at Evergreen. He loved teaching, had many treasured memories, and loved seeing past students.
Many happy years were spent loving and making/sharing memories with his wife Maureen, his children Cody (deceased), Banning, and Mary (husband Adam) and his stepchildren, James (wife Sandy) and Thomas (wife Kim). There are nine grandchildren, Madison, Monica, Cassandra, Brandon, William, Xander, Coltin, Max, and Alabama. There is one great-grandchild Bristol.
His retirement years were spent with Maureen, family, and loved ones trailer traveling, art collecting, cruises, and always enjoying life to the fullest.
WE CELEBRATE A TRULY GOOD MAN AND A LIFE WELL LIVED.
