Yosemite Bears To Be Tracked With GPS

YOSEMITE – For the first time, National Park Service wildlife managers in Yosemite will map and monitor the movement of the park’s black bears in real-time to help wildlife managers understand the animals’ activities beyond Yosemite Valley. Meadow Fire Nears Full Containment

YOSEMITE – The lightning caused Meadow Fire is now 98% contained. Crews have held it at 4,772 acres, and firefighters continue to confine, contain and monitor the fire area. On Wednesday, Sept. 17, forty-five people from across the globe became naturalized United States citizens at Yosemite’s famous overlook, the Glacier Point amphitheater.

Annual Facelift In Yosemite National Park

YOSEMITE – Yosemite National Park and the Yosemite Climbing Association invite the public to participate in the Facelift, an annual event held to clean up trash and debris from around the park after the busy summer season. The event starts on Tuesday, Sept. 23, and continues through Sunday, Sept. 28. Trash pick-up volunteer days will start on Wednesday, Sept. 24.

Meadow Fire Now 80% Contained

YOSEMITE – The Meadow Fire, burning in the backcountry of Yosemite National Park is now 4,772 acres and 80% contained. All roads and visitor facilities in the park remain open. There are currently 328 personnel assigned to the incident and two injuries have been reported. Estimated date for containment is Sept. 21. The suppressions costs to date are $4.9 million.

Meadow Fire Nearly 5,000 Acres

YOSEMITE – The Meadow Fire in Yosemite has now burned 4,933 acres and firefighters have gained 50% containment. No structures have been damaged or destroyed. There are currently 570 personnel assigned to the incident which was started by a lightning strike in mid-July and has cost $2.58 million for suppression efforts to date.

YOSEMITE – The Meadow Fire has now burned 4,906 acres with 23% containment. No structures have been damaged, and none are threatened. There are currently 556 personnel assigned to the incident, and suppression costs are estimated at $1.8 million to date.
