NORTH FORK – A driver who swerved off the road near Thornberry last night may have spent hours unconscious in his car. Joe Clarke, 65, of Bass Lake, called friends at about 8 p.m. on Friday, May 31, telling them that he was on his way to Coarsegold to pick them up. When he didn’t arrive, they began to worry.

OAKHURST – A two vehicle accident on Road 426 at Highview Drive blocked the roadway and sent one woman to the hospital this afternoon. Shortly after 3 p.m. on Friday, May 31, James Yuill, 66, of Oakhurst, known as “Papa Smurf” to his friends, was headed into town to do some shopping.

MARIPOSA – The Mariposa County Sheriff’s Office has initiated a criminal investigation into allegations that a 16-year-old male student at Mariposa County High School sexually assaulted a 17-year-old female student on campus. The alleged assault reportedly occurred on May 21, just after a music concert.
