COARSEGOLD – A Coarsegold woman was taken into custody after she rolled her vehicle on Highway 41 near Coyote Hollow, just south of John’s Storage. At about 1:20 p.m., on Thursday, Oct. 17, CHP received a report of a possible DUI driver headed north on Highway 41.

MADERA COUNTY — Sheriff John Anderson is saddened to announce the passing of Madera County’s top drug sniffing canine, K9 Zak. K9 Zak worked nearly a decade before his passing, earning the reputation as top drug sniffing canine among local, state and even federal officials. Bred in England, this highly trained Springer Spaniel came to the United States in 2003.

MARIPOSA – On Saturday, Oct. 12, Mariposa County Sheriff’s deputies served a search warrant on Burl Drive during a marijuana investigation. According to the Sheriff’s Office, approximately 175 pounds of processed marijuana was located at the garden site.

BASS LAKE – A Bass Lake woman was arrested last weekend after allegedly assaulting a neighbor, and then sicking her Pitt Bull mix on a deputy who responded to the scene. Gwen Lucille Sherrell, 52, was arrested Saturday afternoon at her home on Road 222 in Bass Lake.

MADERA COUNTY – This week the Madera County Sheriff’s Office will hold an introductory meeting for citizens interested in joining the nationally recognized Citizens On Patrol volunteer organization. The event is Wednesday Oct. 23, from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Sheriff’s Annex, 28281 Avenue 14 in Madera, and anyone interested in learning more is encouraged to attend.

COARSEGOLD – A two vehicle accident on Deadwood caused a bit of a slowdown during the morning commute, and the thrashing of a prized possession. At about 8 a.m. Kent Lincoln, 43, of Coarsegold, a teacher and coach at Yosemite High School, was northbound on Highway 41 approaching Road 420 in the right-hand lane.

COARSEGOLD – A collision on Highway 41 last night ended badly for both the bear and vehicle. A Mariposa woman was northbound in a 2008 Kia just south of Serpa Canyon Road at about 7:30 p.m., on Thursday, Oct. 10, when a bear ran out in front of her, according to CHP.

MADERA COUNTY – Day 10 of the preliminary hearing in the arson and conspiracy case of Kenneth Jackson and Allison Waterman got underway this morning in Madera Superior Court with two new witnesses. First on the stand for the prosecution was fire investigator and Fire Captain Specialist Captain William Cacho.
