COARSEGOLD – The Coarsegold school was locked down this afternoon from shortly after 3 p.m. until about 4:45 p.m. while a manhunt was underway for George Walter Rosenberg, 41, of Mariposa. Rosenberg was wanted on a no bail warrant for narcotics charges when a deputy spotted his vehicle in the Coarsegold area near Road 415, and attempted to make contact.

MADERA – Jessica Tancredi, 18, and Channa Hammond, 18, both of Oakhurst, pled guilty yesterday, Jan. 17, to felony attempted carjacking with special allegations for using deadly weapons. Tancredi also pled guilty to felonious assault with a deadly weapon, according to Madera County District Attorney Michael R. Keitz.

MADERA COUNTY – A man wanted for child molestation is finally behind bars, almost 2 years after fleeing the country. Elpidio Cabrales Moran, 60, was taken into custody on Wednesday, Jan 16.

MADERA – A drunk driver who killed two Madera women and seriously injured another passenger, was sentenced today to 35 years to life in state prison. Richard Farias, 57, of Madera, was sentenced on Wednesday, Jan.16, for his conviction on two felony counts of gross vehicular manslaughter, and a separate felony count of driving under the influence and injuring another.

MADERA COUNTY – A suspect has been arrested in connection with the theft of scratcher lottery tickets from the 22-Mile House back in November of 2012. Sheriff John Anderson announced this afternoon that Christopher Nunn, 32, of Fresno is behind bars in Madera County.

OAKHURST – A collection of treasured items gathered over many years went up in flames, or suffered water or smoke damage when a home on Road 425B caught fire last night. At 8:27 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 15, fire crews were dispatched to the house where fire was spreading through the garage and the attic.
