Highway 41 Reopens Through Oakhurst

OAKHURST – CHP is advising that Highway 41 through Oakhurst has been reopened to all traffic, residents and businesses. The road was closed yesterday afternoon as the Junction Fire burned across the highway and forced the evacuation of major parts of Oakhurst and the surrounding area.

Junction Fire Update 12PM Tuesday

OAKHURST – The Junction Fire, now burning just west of Oakhurst, appears to have been fairly quiet this morning, as crews made good progress overnight on containment lines. Firefighters were assisted by low temperatures, higher humidities and calmer winds in battling the 1,200 acre blaze.

Junction Fire Update 6 AM Tuesday

OAKHURST – The Junction Fire, which started along Highway 49 in Oakhurst at 1:50 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 18, has now burned some 1,200 acres and crews made good progress on the lines overnight. Nearly 500 personnel are battling the blaze that swept through Oakhurst yesterday afternoon, after it was reported as a small vegetation fire near Capitol Pipe.

Junction Fire Burns In Oakhurst, Heads For Bass Lake

OAKHURST – The Junction Fire, which started just before 2 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 18, has burned more than 1,200 acres with 0% containment, and forced the evacuation of thousands of residents so far. The fire was initially reported behind Capitol Pipe on Highway 49 in Oakhurst, at about 1/4 acre, and quickly spread through the bone-dry vegetation.

MARIPOSA – The Mariposa Area of the California Highway Patrol will be conducting a DUI/Drivers License Checkpoint on Aug. 30, between the hours of 6 p.m. and 2 a.m., somewhere within Mariposa County. The deterrent effect of DUI checkpoints is a proven resource in reducing the number of persons killed and injured in alcohol or drug involved crashes.

MADERA COUNTY – A head-on collision on Highway 145 this afternoon has claimed the life of a young man from Fresno. Caleb Ryan Koop, 25, was reportedly westbound on Highway 145 when his car drifted into the eastbound lane, hitting a pickup hauling a boat.

Family Loses Home To Fire On Cinder Lane

OAKHURST – Just after 10:30 p.m. last night firefighters responded to a report of a structure fire on Cinder Lane just behind the Sierra Senior Center. Though Madera County Fire Engine #12 was on scene within minutes of the dispatch, the home was nearly fully involved by the time they arrived.
