MARIPOSA COUNTY – Activity at the Hunters Fire is winding down. Crews are being released and the fire is now 80% contained at 677 acres. Engines Respond To Fire On Jean Road

OAKHURST – Residents were understandably nervous this evening as fire trucks wailed through their neighborhood on John West Road. Just before 6 p.m., a call came in of a reported vegetation fire on Jean Road West. Engines from Madera County Fire, Cal Fire and Sierra National Forest were dispatched along with dozers, water tenders and aircraft.

Size Of Hunters Fire Downgraded

MARIPOSA COUNTY – Crews have made progress on the Hunters Fire and fire officials report that the blaze is now 40% contained. Total containment is estimated on June 2. They have also reduced the reported acreage to 677 due to more accurate mapping. The fire was reported on Monday, May 26, burning near Lake McClure in Mariposa County.

Hunters Fire Evacuees Can Return Home

MARIPOSA COUNTY – At 6 p.m. today the Mariposa County Sheriff’s Office will open the current area evacuated due to the Hunters Fire to RESIDENTS ONLY. MARIPOSA COUNTY – Firefighters held the line overnight on the Hunters Fire, still being reported at 1,300 acres and 20% containment. The fire started on Monday afternoon near Lake McClure just west of Highway 49 in Mariposa County.
